“I have feelings too.”

E.J. Liddell was already hurting.

His Ohio State Buckeyes had suffered a 75-72 overtime loss to Oral Roberts in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Liddell had scored a team-leading 23 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. However, he also had the club’s last two turnovers, one with 1:24 left in regulation and another halfway through OT. He had also missed crucial free throws down the stretch.

Making a decision to give himself some time to decompress, he put his phone away. He picked it up eventually and expected to see some fair criticism on social media.

What he received was something different.

He tweeted images of the vulgar threats trolls had sent him. With the aid of the Ohio State athletics department, he contacted campus police, although today he indicated he had little appetite for prosecution.

That’s not because he wasn’t affected by what he read.

“We’re supposed to be, like, tough always and show people that things really don’t get to us, but sometimes it really does.”
