CBJ and the USA

The Blue Jackets are staging an early Veterans’ Day celebration at Nationwide Arena.

They’ve dubbed it Military Appreciation Night, and they’ve been saluting all branches. There was a special anthem. The Blue Jackets wore camouflage warmups. The kids on the zamboni during the first intermission were the children of a United States serviceman…

Cam? Cam is that you? I can't see you!

And on this night, there may be yet another connection to the Stars and Stripes. Team USA consultant Don Waddell was scheduled to be in the building scouting this evening’s game. This, though, comes with two huge caveats:

1) Waddell is also a pro scout for the Penguins, and they play the Islanders November 22nd, so it’s possible he was just planning to take a look at a future opponent.
2) More importantly, I haven’t seen Waddell tonight.

If he is here, and just unnoticed, it would mark the second time this week a Team USA staffer was here in advance of the 2014 Olympics. United States GM David Poile was watching Thursday’s contest against the Rangers.

In case you’re curious, here are the players on the ice this evening who were born in the USA: Colin McDonald (Islanders), Kyle Okposo (Islanders), Matt Donovan (Islanders), Jack Johnson (Blue Jackets), Cam Atkinson (Blue Jackets), Brandon Dubinsky (Blue Jackets), RJ Umberger (Blue Jackets), James Wisniewski (Blue Jackets), Jared Boll (Blue Jackets).
