That’s How It’s Done

The Blue Jackets are one win away from a franchise-record streak. How have they managed to string together five straight?

The winning started one week ago today, and in the past seven days, the Blue Jackets have combined for…

Eight more shots than their opponents (144-136)
Twenty-five more hits than their opponents (119-94)
Eight fewer giveaways than their opponents (16-24)*
Eleven more takeaways than their opponents (32-21)
They have won 173 of 305 faceoffs (in other words 57%)
They are 5/23 on the power play (in other words 22%)
They are 14/15 on the penalty kill (in other words 93%)
Their goalies have combined to save 129 of 136 shots (in other words 95%)**

And only five players are in negative territory when it comes to their +/-. Mark Letestu, Cody Golobef, Derek Dorsett, Vinny Prospal and Derek MacKenzie are -1.

*This is due in large part to the fact that Detroit had an amazing 16 giveaways in the Blue Jackets 3-2 shootout victory.
**If you only look at Sergei Bobrovsky’s performance, the numbers are 124 stops on 128 shots for an outstanding 97% save percentage.
