Former Ohio State senior associate athletics director for finance and operations, Ben Jay, has now been introduced as the new AD at Hawaii.
Although now living in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Jay will face some significant challenges in leading the Rainbow Warriors.
Hawaii’s athletic department, as recently as 2007, was famously having trouble even keeping soap in the soap dispensers. (Former Colt Brennan blasted the school after–perhaps ironically–a visit to Ohio State’s campus that year.)
In 2011, the last year for which the NCAA has numbers, Hawaii’s football team averaged 31,785 fans attending their football games. Aloha Stadium seats 50,000.
Jay is ready to tackle the issues, ready…and able, says his former boss, Gene Smith.
“Ben is a seasoned professional in intercollegiate athletics who will be sorely missed at OSU,” Smith said in a statement, “but the University of Hawaii will benefit from his great leadership.”
